JUDY OSBURN: Born in sight of old Fort Reno in Oklahoma, Judy grew up in the high plains of Texas and in Oklahoma. Animals have been a large part of Judy's life since early childhood. The southwestern environment, her love of animals, and art seemed to be the perfect ingredients that have led to her success. This combination has opened many illustration opportunities Including co-illustration of the 1982 Western Heritage Award winning book, "Saddles", the watercolor cover illustration of the special All American Futurity Issue of "Speedhorse" magazine and the cover of the University of Oklahoma Press' book, "The Quarter Running Horse," cover and article illustration for "Outdoor Oklahoma" magazine.
All animals hold a fascination for Judy and she enjoys portraying them in pencil, watercolor, oil etchings, hand pulled lithographs, and hand pulled serigraphs. Commissioned pet portraits have been a steady business for Judy. She is very particular about the details of each animal she paints. Judy has been involved in the commercial art field with product design and illustration. In 2003 she took her love of the southwest and animals in a new direction with silver and gemstone wearable art. Silversmithing has become an addition to her creative endeavors. The year 2004 began with Judy's participation in the "Spirit of the Buffalo" project sponsored by the Oklahoma Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Her contribution to this project was to design and paint two life size fiberglass buffaloes, one sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield and one sponsored by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. The project has been documented with pictures of buffaloes in a book, "Spirit of the Buffalo, Oklahoma's Past and Future," by Linda Millier Bosteels, published by The Oklahoma Heritage Association.
Judy and her artist husband have been long time residents of Norman, Oklahoma, where they maintain their studio. Her paintings are in many private collections throughout the country and have won numerous awards. Judy's painting, "Tall Grass Turkeys" won the prestigious F & M Bank Award at the 1995 NatureWorks Wildlife Art Show, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Judy is a member of Women Artist of the West and has shown with the American Academy of Equine Art. A return to the University of Oklahoma opened new doors of creativity for Judy with a BFA in Printmaking (1995), which includes Lithography, Etching and Serigraphy.
